Our October 9th General Meeting was held at the Colonia del Prado Club House in Ciudad Colón, hosted by Grace Woodman who was also our presenter.

Michele Côté, President, welcomed all the members and guests present and opened the meeting at 10:07 am. Presentations on the following programs were presented: 2014 Text Books, Scholarship and Website design. The proposed slate for the 2014 Board of Directors and the Fiscal and Fiscal Suplente were elected by acclamation.

International Boca Demonstration

Following the business meeting, Grace Woodman took us on an international boca tour. The delicious iood which everyone tasted included: from India – ginger fruit punch; from Centro America – yuca stuffed balls; from Portugal – shrimp turnovers and many other sweet and savory bocas. Grace also gave helpful tips on how to make each item, how to adjust the recipe for individual tastes, as well as where to buy the ingredients. Everyone was given a copy of each of the recipes and below is a preview of what you could enjoy!


Ginger Fruit Punch

  • 3oz of fresh ginger, peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 ½ cups fresh orange juice
  • 3 cups cold water or club soda or ginger ale
  • ice cubes
Instructions

Combine ginger, sugar and 1 cup of water in a deep heavy pan and bring to the boil. Lower the heat and simmer, uncovered, for about 15 minutes. Strain the mixture and allow to cool. Once cooled, add the lemon and orange juice and refrigerate until needed. Just before serving add cold water or club soda and ice cubes.
