What is today’s Women’s Club?
- The Club was founded in 1940. This is our 71st year!
- The WCCR has undergone many changes during 7 decades. But the spirit of Friendship through Service remains the same.
- Originally, members were women from the United States. We are still an English speaking group, but today women originate from 20+ countries.
- We have over 350 members, ranging in age from 18 – 95.
- Today we have main goals: Building friendships, granting scholarships for Costa Rican young people, and donating books and equipment to public school libraries to encourage children’s interest in reading for fun.
- In the past 5 years, we have donated $250,000 to community service projects.
- Past WCCR projects have included the first mammogram machine in Costa Rica, and the development of an award winning program to raise awareness of domestic abuse.
- Our friendship mission is accomplished by welcoming new women into the community and introducing them to our fascinating variety of members. Many of our members have incredible accomplishments and great stories to tell.
- Amigos Asociados is our male member contingency; they lend a helping hand when needed. Welcome male friends — we appreciate you!
- We promote social events such as neighborhood teas, lunches, mini-fundraisers, dinners and other themed events, plus major fundraisers.
